if i am eligible for sliding a branch in a college say after first year then should i have to study a year extra(4+1) since i lost one year studying in some lower branch

The B,tech degree is of 4 years only. If your college has a option of changing a branch you can apply on completion of first year. All the first year students irrespective of their branch studies the same subjects. If you upgrade your branch and goes to a high branch, you have to study for 3 years, so you complete your b.tech in 4 years with the degree which you opted after 1st year.
