if i am not alloted my preference in round 1 will i be given another eligible branch in the same counselling. that is,let say my rank is 20000 i chose cse but i can only get ece will i be given ece in 1st round.

Yes, you will be alloted seat in the first round if there will be availability of seats in your chosen preferences. And then it will depend on you if you wish to take that alloted seat or you want to participate in round 2 or next round for the upgradation of seat. If you do not want the alloted seat in first round and do not want to participate in next round as well then you can surrender the seat and exit the counselling. For more details, visit here:
