Each Institution has its own criteria for shortlisting Candidates for their MBA programmes. For example, IIMs conside the Academic profile, Diversity factor, work experience not less than 2 years and not more than 5 years, merits and achievements and your CAT score. These all factors are rated on scale of 1-10. For example, an aggregate of 85% in your 10th can get you 8 points on a rating scale. Again this scale differs from Institution to Institution. Professional stduies have a different rating scale and regular Graduation courses have a different rating scale. Now the cut offs are also different for each Category. For a Candidate belonging to General Category it might be 85 percentile for the IIMs. And work experience is not mandatory either. Considering all these factors, if you can manage 80-85%, you may get shortlisted from a good B-school.
Yes, your past academic performance and work experiences effect the overall result. It depends on the grade of college in which you are seeking admission. Each college will have its own standards to assess the candidates.During the time of selection your merit in CAT, past academic performance, personal interview, group discussion, WAT scores are assessed and shortlisted. You don't have very poor academics. But your 12th% and work experiences may effect your selection.
I hope this is helpful to you.
