No it is not necessary to qualify IIT Jam to be eligible for GATE exam. Candidates must have passed graduation in engineering/technology or Master’s degree in any relevant science subject. Candidates in pre-final or finaly year of their qualifying degree also eligible to appear for GATE 2021. There is no age limit. This year, candidates from arts and humanities background will also be eligible to appear in GATE 2021 Environmental Science and Engineering (ES) and Humanities and Social Science (XH) papers.

IITJAM and GATE both are different exams.However they have a similarity that both are conducted to get admission in PG ccourses in top reputed institutes of India such as IITs, NITs etc. IITJAM exam is the M.Sc. Entrance Test. It offers admission in IITs and IISC for Master’s in Science, Joint M.Sc. – Ph.D., M.Sc. – Ph.D., Dual Degree, etc. On the other hand is mainly for MTech admissions. You can apply for exams after completing your UG degree.
