Yes, as a resident of Puducherry, including Karaikal, Mahe, Yanam, you must appear for JEE Main to get admission in government engineering institutes like NIT Puducherry, Pondicherry Engineering College also known as PEC, and other UT quota seats. These colleges admit students through the CENTAC counselling system, which requires a valid JEE Main score.

For NIT Puducherry, 50 percent of seats are reserved for home state candidates, and admission is entirely based on JEE Main rank through JoSAA. Without JEE Main, entry is not possible.
