There are no disadvantage of doing B.tech Lateral Entry after completing diploma.
Diploma holders can apply for B.tech Lateral Entry. Lateral entry means the admission will be directly in the 2 year of the course program you have chosen. Admission in any programme depends on qualifying the Eligibility criteria for the same programme.
As per the website of LPU, Eligibility criteria for the B.tech Lateral Entry is to Pass with 60% aggregate marks in Diploma (Engg.) (any stream) 3 years after 10th or 2 yrs after 12th.

Lateral Entry has an advantage as it prepares you for Engineering as you will be better prepared. It will increase your career perspective. If you do B.Tech after your diploma then you can get a better job after B.Tech. A student doing job after B.Tech would get double the salary one get after Diploma. So there are no disadvantages of doing B.Tech Lateral Entry in ECE as it is the fastest growing field.It is mainly focused on transmission of signals.
