Dear Jishu,
If you only take JEE Main, but do not qualify for JEE Advanced or do not wish to take JEE Advanced even if you qualify, then you will have only 1 attempt left. A candidate can attempt JEE Advanced in 2 consecutive years which means you can avail only 2 attempts, however, the age criteria and the qualifying examination passing year criteria is also there. For appearing in JEE Advanced in 2019, your qualifying exam (12th) passing year should be in 2018 or 2019. If you wish to appear in JEE Advanced in 2020, then you should have passed 12th in 2019 or 2020, which means you will have only 1 chance in 2019 to take JEE Advanced if you do not take it this year.
JEE Advanced has two attempts only and in consecutive years. Also the qualifying year matters so you will lose one chance. Candidates can attempt JEE Advanced 2018 if they have passed their class 12 in 2017 or 2018. Going by that clause, you will stand only one chance if your qualifying year is 2018.
