- MANIT Bhopal / NIT Kurukshetra / NIT Rourkela
- NIT Durgapur / NIT Jamshedpur
- NIT Jalandhar ( Estd. 1987) / NIT Delhi ( Estd. 2010)
- NIT Raipur/ NIT Hamirpur (Estd 1986)
These are the NITs which were RECs / RITs (Regional Engg College/ Regional Institute of Technology) before. and were established in early 1960s (unless otherwise mentioned). They have better alumni base and infrastructure as compared to newer ones.
