Tribunals are envisioned in India under article 323 A and 323 B of the constitution of India. Article 323 A proposes an administrative tribunal at centre as well as state level if recommended. Whereas article 323 B  covers a wide ranging areas . It provides for setting of tribunals in cases of any disputes, complaints, or offences with respect to which  Legislature has power to make laws. As a result we have tribunals like Income tax appellate tribunal , tribunal for customs and excise, National green tribunal. Apart from these tribunals under different authorities are also formed like armed forces tribunal, inter state river dispute tribunal etc.

The Central government may, by notification in the official gazette, constitute one or more National Tribunals for the adjudication of Industrial Disputes in National matters. A Tribunal is a minor court which adjudicates disputes arising in special areas. Tribunals were added in the Constitution in Act, 1976 as Part XIV-A, which has only two articles i.e 323-A and 323-B. While article 323-A deals with Administrative Tribunals. Article 323-B deals with tribunals for other matters.
