Salim is half his mother age now .ten years ago he was one third his mother age what are the present age
Hello aspirant,
Let us assume Salim's mother's age is 'a'.
Now Salim age is half his mother's age = a/2
10 years ago his age was 1/3 of his mother = 1/3 a
10 years ago his mother's age was = (a - 10) ------> (Eq. 1)
Salim's age = (a/2 - 10) ------> (Eq. 2)
Now equating Equation 1 & Equation 2, we get,
(a - 10) = (a/2 - 10)
By cross multiplication
(a - 20) 2 = 1/3 (a - 10)
3(a - 20) = 2(a - 10)
3a - 60 = 2a - 20
a = 40
Now substituting a = 40 value in Equation 2, we get
(a/2 - 10) = (40/2 - 10) = 20 - 10 = 10
That means 10 years back Salim was 10 years old and now he is 20 years old.
Salim's Mother's age is 40 years.
Salim's age is 20 years.
I hope this information was helpful to you.
Good Luck!!
saleem mother's age supposed to be X. Then his X will be X/2. Ten years ago means, we will reduce ten years from both ages which will be X -10 and X/2 - 10.
Now according to the question, Saleem age was one third of his mother's age (ten years ago), which will be like this: X/2 - 10 = (X-10) *1/3. By calculating, you will get the value of X = 40, which is the present age of mother and when you divide the value of X by 2, you will get the age of saleem which is 20.
Hello,
The question can be solved as follows
Let the present age of the mother be 'x' years
Then the present age of Salim will be 'x/2' years
Mother's age 10 years ago will be 'x-10' years
Salim's age 10 years ago will be '(x/2)-10' years
It is given that 10 years ago Salim's age= 1/3 of his mother's age
then (x-20)/2 = 1/3*(x-10)
=> (3x-60) = (2x-20)
=>3x-2x= -20+60
=> x= 40
Therefore, the age of Salim's mother is 40 years. Then the age of Salim will be (x/2)= 40/2= 20 years.
