The basic difference between General (gen) and OBC rank is this that the General rank is your rank amongst all the candidates who have given the examination and the OBC rank is your rank only amongst the OBC candidates.
Say for example your score is 200 then your general rank will be around 2500 while the OBC rank will be around 300-350. So you must be understanding the difference.
Both the general and obc ranks are your correct ranks.
The advantage of belonging to OBC is that seats are reserved for this category. OBC rank is basically a category rank. If you go to take admission in a college, they will first see your general rank. If the general rank is enough for getting a seat then that's good else they'll see your category rank. The closing rank for OBC are usually higher than the general rank. For example :- The closing rank for cse in a college is 3014 for general rank holders, and the OBC closing rank is 5042.
