Hello Hari,
It is never a good idea to drop a year as it doesn't guarantee you success. In fact, a much better idea would be take admission in a course a do JEE Main preparation simultaneously. This way you will have less preparartion time, but on the upside you will learn to value your spare time and also how to maximize.
Also, this way you won't feel constant niggle about the fact that some of your friends have moved ahead and you are left behind.
Finally, whatever decision you take unless it is backed up by solid efford and smart preparation, it won't reap the desired fruits.
