Gene therapy consititues some advanced methods of genetic engineering by application of which faulty gene can be replaced by normal healthy functional gene.

Usually a carrier or vector (gene taxi) is used to insert the gene within the cells .

The vectors used a re usually retroviruses which are modified so they are unable to cause any harm.

The first clinical gene therapy was given to a 4 year old girl child  with Adenosine Deaminase Deficiency
