The average age of all the girls in a class of 42 students is 13 years. The average age of all the boys as well as the average age of 23 of the boys of the same class is 16 years. find the average age of the students in the class.

Please find the solution below:
Avg. of age of boys in the class is 16
Therefore, 16 = x/23
Here, x is sum of age of all 23 boys.
Therefore, x = 16*23 = 368
Hence, sum of age of boys is 368
Now, as there are 23 boys in the class of 42, number of girls is 19.
As avg. of age of girls in the class is 13:
13 = y*19
Therefore, y = 19*13 = 247
Therefore, sum of age of 42 students is x+y = 368+247 = 615
Now,
Avg of age of all the students will be = sum of age of all the students/number of student
= 615/42
=14.64
