Correct Answer: 16
Solution :
Given: The ratio of the amount of work done by $(x-1)$ labourers in $(x+1)$ days to that done by $(x+1)$ labourers in $(x+2)$ days is 5 : 6.
We know,
$\frac {M_1×D_1}{W_1}=\frac{M_2×D_2}{W_2}$, where $M$, $D$ and $W$ are the number of people, the number of days and work done respectively.
⇒ $\frac {M_1×D_1}{M_2×D_2}=\frac{W_1}{W_2}$,
⇒ $\frac{(x-1)(x+1)}{(x+1)(x+2)}=\frac{5}{6}$
⇒ $\frac{(x-1)}{(x+2)}=\frac{5}{6}$
⇒ $6x-6=5x+10$
⇒ $x=16$
Hence, the correct answer is 16.
