You will be admitted directly to the second year of the B. Tech degree if you apply through lateral entry.

The state oversees this lateral admission into engineering institutes. Colleges set aside seats for lateral entry. However, lateral entrance is not an option for admission to IITs.

The second choice you have is to enroll in B tech by passing the state-level engineering entrance exams. You will need to take the JEE exam. In contrast to lateral entry, you will be admitted to the first year through this.
