The AIIMS Entrance Exam is held out of a total of 200 marks, with Physics, Chemistry and Biology sections holding 60 marks each and the General Knowledge section offering 20 marks. As per AIIMS 2017, General Category candidates had to meet a Cut Off Percentile of 99.0014978 to simply qualify for admissions. In terms of marks required to confirm admissions, it is advisable to aim for a score of 160 marks and above to gain admission in AIIMS New Delhi, and a score of 130 and above for the six other AIIMS institutions. Given that it is one of the most competitive exams in India, with around 2 lakh candidates appearing for the 700 seats on offer, it is imperative that you prepare to the best of your ability in each subject, as the loss of a single mark can lead to a drop in many ranks. However, you may find it useful to keep in mind the tie-breaking methodology used by AIIMS to separate candidates who obtain the same rank. Candidates who secure higher percentile scores in Biology are given a higher rank. Next, the Chemistry marks are considered and finally the Physics marks. So while this is not a recommendation to prioritize one subject over the other, atleast knowing this order of tie-breaking will help you know where you need to try and obtain the highest marks in case your rank is the same as any other candidate. Hope this helps. Good luck!
