What is the minimum age and qualification for giving UGC NET examination?
To apply for UGC NET 2019, you must have a master's degree with at least 55% marks from a recognized university/institutions recognized by UGC whereas candidates belonging to OBC/SC/ST category are required to have at least 50% marks in their post-graduation in order to appear for the exam. Educational Qualification —
You must have masters’ degree to appear for the UGC NET
exam with minimum 55% aggregate marks if you belong to General category or

Age Criteria —
If you want to apply for Junior Research Fellowship, then your
age must not exceed 30 years.
OBC/SC/ST/PwD/Women candidates get 5 years’ age relaxation.
There are no age criteria for Assistant Professor candidates can
appear for exam when they want.

The minimum educational qualification for appearing in UGC NET is masters in any stream. NTA publishes the list of around 85 subjects. Candidates can check these subjects and choose to take UGC NET as per the subject of their educational background. If the subject of the candidates is not available in the list, then candidates can even take the exam in the related subject. However, in post graduation, unreserved category candidates must have at least 55% marks (without rounding off), while reserved category candidates should have secured 50% marks (without rounding off) or more than that.

Candidates who have appeared OR will be appearing at the qualifying Masters degree (final year) examination and whose result is still awaited or candidates whose qualifying examinations have been delayed may also apply for this test. However, such candidates will be admitted provisionally and shall be considered eligible for award of Junior Research Fellowship/eligibility for Assistant professor only after they have passed their Masters Degree examination OR equivalent with at least 55% marks(50% marks in case of OBC(Non- creamy layer)/SC/ST/PWD(persons with disability) category candidates. Such candidates must complete their P.G degree examination within two years from the date of NET result with required percentage of marks, failing which they shall be treated as disqualified.
He/ she must not be more than 28 years as on January 1, 2019 for applying for Junior Research Fellowship.
A relaxation of up to 5 years is provided for candidates belonging to reserved categories
Ph.D. degree holders will be given relaxation of 5% aggregate marks if they have completed masters degree before September 19, 1992 .
