What is the use of Engineering Graphics as a subject for CSE student at GITAM University Hyderabad? Please elaborate in detail.

In the first year of Btech, irrespective of the stream everyone will have the same syllabus. So everyone will study C programming, Engineering graphics , workshop lab and all even though they are not their subjects. The syllabus is same In Every university and College , not only in GITAM Hyderabad. If I speak about the Carpentry, Fitting and Sheet metal in workshop they are the basic works that everyone should know irrespective of the branch. That is the main reason for making it as a compulsory.

The world we live in is a “Multidisciplinary” world. This is the true nature of the Real World. Academically we need to study the subjects of our chosen domain like CSE/ISE/EC…etc., But in I year engineering some subjects of other domain are taught to give a glimpse of the other domains which is very essential later in life to function as an Engineer in your own chosen domain.

Suppose a CSE/EC engineer has to design a CPU which is the Brain of the computer. you being from CSE/EC domain, how will you express your Design Idea! It can happen only through Engineering drawing. Whether you are expressing the design of a CPU which may contain 60 million transistors or a RAM chip which should fit into a a DIMM slot or say new USB ver 5.0 which could be plugged into any future device. Manufacturing can happen only when there is a detailed engineering drawing about the things to be fabricated. This is where Engineering Drawing plays a major role.CSE/EC…engineers should have this ability to express their own design Idea as a drawing and convey this to others so that it can be manufactured. of course manufacturing is done by mechanical / metallurgical …engineers.

I can Understand your feelings as i also went through these phase. See, there are some subjects like C for others, Basic electrical, Engineering Graphics, Workshop, Modern Physics Part 1 are University Elective Subject. You have to study it.

There is no application in computer science but they are teaching you to make sure that you know all the basics of Engineering.

It's a basic engineering science that is required to learn. It is highly important for civil engineering and mechanical engineering.

Same goes with engineering workshop as well
