what would be the procedure to get a seat for MBBS under GMP category? is it same way of councilling and college allotment?
Hello Kushal!
GMP or General Merit Private quota is applicable for only candidates of Karnataka. In order to understand it better, you must know the seat distribution matrix in Karnataka.
In Karnataka, MBBS seats are broadly categorized into 4 types: Government setas, Private seats, NRI seats and Other seats. Government seats are applicable for all government medical colleges and it is the only kind of seats available in govt colleges. The reservation for such seats purely follows the guidelines of Government reservation policies for different categories. Government seats are available in private colleges too. Around 33% of the seats are reserved in private non-minority colleges(KPCF colleges) and 10% of seats in private minority colleges.
Now, GMP applies for only Private seats.
- In KPCF colleges, 42% of the seats are reserved as private seats. In this 42%, half of the seats are for GMP category and remaining half for Open category.
- In KRLMPCA and AMPCK colleges, 66% of seats are reserved for minorities. In the remaining 34%, half of the seats are for GMP and remaining half for open category.
Now, the procedure to claim under GMP category is same. You have to attend state counselling and apply under GMP category for private seats in private medical colleges. For more information you can refer to the article below:
