The causative agent of this disease is methylmercury.
Minamata is the disease of CNS, type of poisoning caused by high/long consumption of fish and shellfish from Minamata Bay.
It causes muscle weakness, damage to hearing and speech, numbness in hands-feet.

the minimum tab a disaster caused among those consuming fish near the China sea and the minamata bay of Japan was mainly due to the methylmercury containing industrial effluents released into the water which caused neuropathy which included blindness , hearing loss and numbness of the hands and feet on consumption fish which groove in the water containing the polluted methylmercury and all these are basically science of chronic Mercury poisoning
