Well it depends on the institutes who sets the test series. Often good institutes can often track off the basic outline of the paper, and so are able to accurately set the paper.
The questions might not be very similar , but definetly you will learn the basic paper outline

It all depends on how well you do in CAT. If you are confident to do exceedingly well, then you can surely afford a one year gap. You can also consider the option of doing some certifications simultaneously with your preparation of CAT.
