Based on the latest CBSE guidelines, if you failed in Maths and Chemistry in your Class 12 exams (2025), you are likely eligible for the compartment exams, provided you passed in at least four other subjects. Here’s what you need to know:
Eligibility: Since you have six subjects (PCMB + English + Physical Education), failing in two subjects (Maths and Chemistry) while passing the other four makes you eligible for the compartment.
Optional Subject: Even if Chemistry was marked as an "optional" subject in your result, it still counts toward your overall performance.
Next Steps:You can register for the compartment exams once CBSE releases the official notification (usually shortly after the results). Focus on preparing for Maths and Chemistry to clear them in the compartment.
Don’t worry—many students bounce back from this! Check CBSE’s official website for updates or consult your school for exact dates and procedures. You’ve got this!
Hi dear candidate,
If you are from CBSE board then, they follow the best 5 policy which means that you can club any 5 together except you can not exclude English as it is compulsory.
However, keep in mind that several courses like B.Tech, B.Sc etc. specifically requires PCM marks so you can not use music subject as additional subject there.
BEST REGARDS
Congratulations on achieving a 75% (375 marks) in your CBSE Class 12 examinations. Your performance in Mathematics and Physical Education is particularly commendable, with both at 86 marks.
To address your query regarding eligibility for NIT or IIT counselling under the General category:
Eligibility for NITs/IIITs/GFTIs via JEE Main:
Candidates must either secure a minimum of 75% in Class 12 or be in the top 20 percentile of their respective board. You have already met the 75% criterion, so you satisfy this requirement.
Eligibility for IITs via JEE Advanced:
Candidates first need to qualify JEE Main and be among the top 2.5 lakh candidates. After that, qualifying JEE Advanced is required. In addition, a minimum of 75% in Class 12 is necessary, which you have already achieved.
In summary, you are eligible for both JEE Advanced and JoSAA counselling for IITs, NITs, IIITs, and related institutions.
Next Steps:
With your board eligibility confirmed, the focus should now be on achieving a competitive rank in JEE Main and JEE Advanced to maximize your options during counselling. If you require assistance with college prediction, rank analysis, or guidance on potential branches, feel free to reach out.
Best wishes for your future academic pursuits.

CBSE considers the latest result final, even if it's worse. You should apply for re-evaluation or verification if you think there's any mistake. If Maths still shows compartment, you can appear for the next compartment exam, likely in July–August 2025. Visit your school or contact CBSE for clarification and further steps.
