Hey Gopal,

If you are an aspirant to join cds having eyesight -1.5D, then here are some information for you...

The minimum acceptable visual acuity is 6/6 in a better case and worse could be 6/18. The eyesight has to be corrected. Myopia should not be more than -3.5D and Hypermetropia should not be above + 3.5D including astigmatism....and also it's less opportunity for you to join Air force.

How should a Bcom Graduate go about CDS OTA exam ? What books can be suggested to answer the exam ?

Shloka Singh 2nd Sep, 2020

Hello Akansha,

Union Public Service Commission conducts combined defense service exam twice per year in order to sign on candidates for "Indian Military Academy, Officers Training Academy, Indian Naval Academy and Indian Air Force Academy". I will guide you with every little detail you need to know.

I. CDS OTA (Combined Defense Services-Officer Training Academy) till date conducts exam in traditional mode i.e pen-paper mode consisting of objective type questions to assess the English and General Knowledge (excluding mathematics) of an applicant.

II. OTA and IMA a candidate must have a graduation degree from a recognized university. INA requires an engineering degree  and AFA candidates must have an engineering degree  or have studied math and physics attheir intermediate level.

III. These books that i recommend you will build your base and carry you forward to achieve your goal (you can refer other books too after you understand the basic pattern of the exam)

  1. High School English Grammar and Composition Key by Wren and Martin
  2. Word Power Made Easy    by Norman Lewis
  3. A Modern Approach to Verbal & Non-Verbal Reasoning by R.S. Aggarwal
  4. Combined CDS (OTA) Book    by Defense Direct Education
  5. Pathfinder CDS by Arihant Experts

Also read news papers and magazines to build your awareness.

So the answer to your question is a big YES, you can start your preparations from today and can apply for your exams once you complete your graduation degree .

ALL THE BEST!!

25 nov 1996 is my dob , i am eligible for cds 1 2021

S. Saha Student Expert 31st Aug, 2020
There are different segments in CDS and the age limit is different for all of these. If you want to join Indian Military Academy or Indian Naval Academy then you must be within 19 to 24 years old and for Air Force Academy, your age must be within 20 to 24 years and for Officers Training Academy the candidates' age must be within 19 to 25 years.
Till now UPSC has not released the eligibility criteria of CDS 2021. According to the above age limit candidates born not earlier than January 2, 1996 only are eligible for CDS 2020 but as you are asking it for CDS 2021 so it will be increased by one year so therefore the date becomes January 2, 1997. So you will not be eligble according to this years' eligibility criteria. However this is based on this year criterion and next year it can change. And if the criteria remains same, then you can appear for Officers' Training Academy as the maximum age limit is 25 years.
