Top B-Schools do give weightage to past academic performance while shortlisting candidates for selection. However, there are other factors that B-Schools look for while selecting a candidate. In your case, since you got 79 percentile in CAT last year without preparation, I am sure that with dedicated preparation
We do not have 1 to 1 correspondence of score and percentile. Percentile is a relative score and depends on:
1. Standard of the paper2. Quality of the students appearing for the exam.So, your CAT percentile depends on where you stand (with your score) with respect to others'
