I got 50% in class 10 board exam. Can it affect my kvpy SB fellowship?

Koustav Dey 13th Nov, 2020

Hello aspirant,

  • According to the eligibility criteria of KVPY2020 1st  year undergraduate students in Basic science(Physics/Chemistry/Mathematics & Biology leading to B.Sc./B.S./B.Stat./B.Math./Int. M.Sc./Int. M.S.) can apply for it.
  • Also, it is mandatory to have minimum 60% marks (for general category) and 50% marks (for SC/ST/PWD) in aggregate in Math and Science subjects (Physics/Chemistry/Biology) in the XII Standard Board Examination.

Once, these two criteria are fulfilled then the candidate is eligible to appear for the aptitude test.

Also, in the 1st year final examination of B.Sc. /B.S. /Math. /Stat./Int. M.Sc./Int. M.S. you must secure 60% (50% for SC/ST/PWD) marks before taking up the fellowship.

So, your 10th marks won’t pose any effect in this.

Hope this helps!

Good luck!

My friend wants to join PhD. Which kind of stipened or fellowship, he can be offered? His B.tech CGPA 7.37 and M.tech CGPA 7.56.

theeanonymous 26th Oct, 2020

Hello Arka,

Usually candidates with a GPA above 8 will have a good chance to get into reputed institutes like IITs ,NITs, IISC etc. Since your friend has finished M.Tech degree , GATE will mostly be optional and more emphasis will be given for the thesis work, the call for interview will be based on the quality of research proposal. However, some institutes may have a written test and interview as a part of their selection process. So visit the official website of the institute you wish to join for more details on the selection process. Regarding the stipend ,usually minimum it can be around 28000-30000 per month which may increase after 2 years as you become a senior research fellow . The duration can vary from 3-5 years but it can also be extended based on the research requirements.

Hope this helps

If I will admission into iiser bhopal for chemical engineering then I will get kvpy fellowship if I crack kvpy

Abhishek Roy 27th Oct, 2020

I think you mean Chemical Sciences/Chemistry. There are no Chemical Engineering courses in IISER, all courses are under a structured Bachelor of Science and Master of Science Curriculum.

Secondly, yes you will recieve your KVPY Scholarship during the course of your degree once enrolled, provided you crack KVPY SA/SX/SB.

i am going to pusue only btech after jee and what will be the use of becoming a KVPY fellowship?

Akshita Paul 6th Sep, 2020

Hello,

Through KVPY, you can test your preparations for JEE on a national scale. Many students who crack KVPY get a good rank in JEE. You can appear multiple times for the exam to secure the scholarship. You might find this scholarship exam tougher than other examinations as most of the questions that are asked in the exam are JEE Main or JEE Advanced level questions. But once you crack it, it will be easy for you to crack JEE Main, or JEE Advanced. The students who qualify in the KVPY Exam are eligible for a fellowship as well as admissions into institutes like the IISC and the IISER.

Hope this helps!!!

Shreya Singh Student Expert 2nd Aug, 2020

Hello,

As you have mentioned that you have scored 23 marks in IIT Jam but it would be difficult to tell you exactly about the admission chances as cutoff vary every year depending on the various factors such as difficulty level of the exam, Number of candidates appeared for the exam, Performance of the candidates etc.

However you can check the previous year cutoff to take an Idea about the admission possibilities.
