priyaankasarkar Student Expert 21st Apr, 2019
Dear Shovitha, Genetic engineering is used by scientists to enhance or modify the characteristics of an individual organism. In other words, is the directmanipulationof an organism'sgenesusing biotechnology. Genetic engineering has applications in medicine, research, industry and agriculture and can be used on a wide range of plants, animals and microorganisms. In medicine, genetic engineering has been used to mass-produce insulin, human growth hormones, follistim (for treating infertility), human albumin, monoclonal antibodies, antihemophilic factors, vaccines, and many other drugs. So it comes under Engineering stream but can be helpful in the field of medicine.
