see gate is important if you want to do mtech from iits or nits or any other aicte approved institute, if you have passion to work in indian psus like iocl, ntpc, ongc, mdl, bhel, bel etc gate exam is the only gate way since, this psus hires graduate engineers only through gate exam. some of the institute like national institute of industrial training has management course admission based on gate exam. some of the research institute like barc, drdo recruits the candidates through gate exam  score.

all branch is equally good but here is some branch with good package

1. computer science:-  you will get office job with a very decent salary

2. ECE:- this will also provide office job

3. EEE

4. IT:- same job like cse

5. chemical engineering:- you have to work on management and other official works.

these are some good branches with less physical work and decent salary.
