see you may apply in gate exam from electrical engineering branch. any of engineering student can apply for gate exam from any other branches, but as for psu recruitment and drdo you will not eligible to get call from drdo or any other psu as there criteria  for electrical engineering branch recruitment is student need to pass b.tech on electrical or in electrical and electronics or electrical and power engineering.  most of the mechatronics engineers opts gate paper on mechanical engineering as there is some similarity in mechatronics and mechanical engineering syllabus. however even for m.tech admission in iits you will not be eligible for electrical engineering related stream for m.tech admission.

difference between m.tech and m.s courses is m.tech is more in depth knowledge of any particular engineering stream with the technical ideas and future of any technology. whether ms is fully research based and more interest is given on thesis rather than practical approch. here iit kanpur has ms program on civil engineering. gate score of 600+ is enough for shortlisting for interview process. however it is liable to change in every year. cutoff marks in camparely low to m.tech admission in iit kanpur. placement has no guaranty, most of the students after completing ms course goes for higher studies or phd course in foreign or iits.

see cutoff score changes year to year and depends on lot of factors like number of participants, questions difficulty level etc, for general category student, if you have more than 750 gate score you have chances in iits for mtech , however it may changes year to year.

If you have not yet placed in any company that I would suggest you should work on your skills first. If you have a good skill set then you can definitely get a placement in your desired company. Most of the companies invite students for interview off campus based on their skill set and resume.

I suggest you should learn some latest technologies like django, python react flutter etc.

make a good project using these technologies put it on your resume and then apply for jobs. You will get a job if your project is good and you have a good command over these technologies.

Dear Shruthi , In gate , aptitude section is having weightage of 15 marks(10 for reasoning and 5 for english). These are considered as bonus marks. But many people take it lightly or leave it for last minute.

I think that power and oil sector is great for mechanical engineers.

Psu like IOCL , ONGC, BPCL, HPCL, GAIL etc are great for a mechanical engineer.

Apart from other perks they pay handsomely to their employees not to mention the working timing which is great when compared to the private sector.

Well, You may be aware of the ongoing crisis in BSNL. The government has offered VRS  to its existing employees. Govt has proposed for MTNL & BSNL merger too. So right now we can not expect a recruitment from their end. But definitely by the end of 2020 or in the starting of 2021 we hope BSNL will come with recruitment. I strongly recommend you to start preparing for other exams conducted by Railway, ISRO , BARC where n number of candidates are employed every year. Keep updating their career page regularly. Apart from this, You may appear for other exams conducted by your Home state.

I suggest you to start preparing for exams with dedication. You need to have a through knowledge in quant, reasoning, current affairs apart from your subject . Stay focused , dedicate 5-6 hours daily for your preparation. Definitely you can clear the exam in one go. if any doubts, pls feel free to ask.
