Sharon Rose Student Expert 14th Nov, 2020

Hello,

Eligibility criteria to appear for CAT is that a candidate must have passed bachelor's degree from a recognised board. Candidates belonging to general category/EWS/OBC-NCL must score minimum 50% aggregate or equivalent CGPA. Candidates belonging to SC/ST must score minimum 45% marks or equivalent CGPA. Candidates who are appearing in the final year of the qualifying exam are also eligible. So if you score the required percentage you are eligible.

Final admission in to IIMs is based on marks scored in CAT, past academic performance, experience and performance in the interview. As long as you have passed class 10th from a recognised board you will be eligible for the admission provided you must fulfill all other requirements.

Hello aspirant,

You want to understand the procedure for admission in IIM CALCUTTA. You have completed your bachelor's in BCA data analytics. Since this is a non Engineering background, you can expect a call from IIM Calcutta at lower percentile as compared to btech mtech students.
The admission process consists of 2 phases. First phase is the CAT percentile calculation. Based on CAT percentile only you will get a call from IIMs for interviews. Minimum CAT percentile for an OBC candidate is 75 percentile to expect a call from IIM CALCUTTA. Phase 2 is about shortlisting for personal interview.  For this they have various criteria and points based on 10th , 12th , graduation CGPA and work experience.
You will get 10 points if you have scored 80% + in your 10th and 12th boards.
Your graduation CGPA will be converted into percentage and points will be given accordingly.
After calculation of these points , based in them final points will be calculated out of 100.
On this basis candidates will be selected for final selection. The weightage of all the criterias are mentioned below.
CAT score - 30
Personal interview- 48
Written ability test - 10
Point granted for academic diversity at bachelor's degree for non Engineering background- 4
Work experience- 8

Since you have no work experience you will get zero points for that. To gain points you will have to gain managerial work experience.
For detailed information you can refer this article. It will completely clarify your doubt regarding iim Calcutta admission.

Manidipa Kundu Student Expert 12th Oct, 2020

hi,

see iims shortlisted candidates based on academic score, professional experience and the cat score. however it also depends on other factors like number of participants, questions difficulty level, students category, overall the profile of candidates etc. so it is quite difficult to predict whether you would get shortlisted or not. however right now you have to study hard to achieve a excellent score in CAT to make the maximum possibility of shortlisting.

you may follow the below link to know about cat cutoff score of  IIM CALCUTTA.

I scored 62 percentage in 12 7.4 cgpa in 10 and 66 percentage in graduation and 99 percentile in cat . can I get admission in iim Calcutta or iim lukhnow

Tunir Sikdar 24th Sep, 2020

Hi,

Congratulations on your CAT score.

Let me break it dwon for you:

The selection criteria at IIM Calcutta :

Overall Score of CAT- 28

Class X marks - 10

Class XII marks - 10

Gender Diversity Factor - 2

Total - 50

As per your 10th results, you will get around 6/10

As per your 12th results, you will get around 2/10

As per your graduation, you will get around 2/10 (you have not mentioned your branch or course of study)

You get 2 in diversity if you are female.

IIM calcutta especially prefers experienced candidates. You to have to score quiet high in WAT-Pi to get selected

You will have to perform exceptionally well at Interviews to get selected. There is no other way to get selected.

Hope this helps!

What should I fill in "year of passing" in 12th field in CAT form 2020 if I passed 12th in 2016 and appeared for Improvement in all subjects in 2017 ? Also I have improved my percentage so which marks should I enter? Please Help. Remember I passed all my subjects in 2016.

yubi wa 21st Sep, 2020

Dear student,

It is a tricky situation but the answer is simple. You passed the senior secondary exam in the year of 2016 so you should mention 2016 as the year of passing. You are saying that you secured more percentage in improvement, then you can mention the improved grades in the form. But at the time of interviews, you will have to carry both the marksheets . Only The one with the more percentage , shall be considered valid. Which is the improved one in your case.

And lastly, dont worry . This does not affect the admission criteria .As long as you have cracked the entrance exam and proved your caliber for the respective exam, you are pretty much good to go.
