You can get into IIST (Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology) for their Undergraduate programmes. The admission is based on JEE Advanced scores. Which means you need to have studied Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in 10+2. You can pick any of their 4 year Bachelor programmes like B.Tech in Physical Sciences, B.Tech in Avionics and B.Tech in Aerospace Engineering, etc. Or you can also pick up their 5 year Integrated courses in Master of Science in Astronomy and AstroPhysics, Master of Technology in Earth System Science, Master of Science in Solid State Physics and Master of Science in Optical Engineering, etc.

IIST also offers Postgraduate Programmes like:
M.Tech in Soft Computing & Machine Learning
M.Tech in RF & Microwave Engineering
M.Tech in Geo informatics
M.Tech in Optical Engineering
M.Tech in Machine Learning & Computing
M.Tech in Solid State Technology
M.Tech in VLSI & Microsystems
M.Tech in Materials Science & Technology, etc. and admission to all these courses is through GATE score only. Please check our page for more information: https://engineering.careers360.com/articles/iist-mtech-admission

I passed my 12th in 2018 with 96%. Am I eligible for admisiion to BITS Pilani, IISERs, IIIT-Hyderabad, IISc, IIST, IIEST? Which one is better for me from among the ELIGIBLE ONES?

Manidipa Kundu Student Expert 8th Mar, 2020

hi,

see as per your score you are eligible to apply in all institute, you have the qualifying marks criteria, however bits admission process is basis on score in bitsat exam, however you are not eligible to give bit sat, since you have passed 12th in 2018. now coming to iiits iiest shivpur, admission is basis on jee main score, which you are eligible to apply, since jee main exam can be attempted 3 times starting from the year of passing of 12th course . iisc does not offer engineering courses it has bs-ms dual degree course which is done on the basis of jee advance exam or jee main score , same goes for iist, since admission is done on basis of jee advance score,  you are not also eligible to apply for jee advance exam this year.

Should I take a dual degree in IIST or take a B.Tech in Engineering Physics at IIT Hyderabad and then go for further studies? I want to get into astrophysics.

lubhan cherwoo 8th Mar, 2020
Hi,
If we look at comparative analysis of IIST and IITH then I'd say that IIST is better for a narrow field of area ie astrophysics due to the following reasons
  • Selective field: IIST is more focused on space science which also allines with your interest in astrophysics, IIST is newer and has well equipped labs at par with older IITs
  • Placements: if you look at the placements then simply put IITs generally get better placements, but IIST being a new colleges get lesser visits from companies.
  • Core: if you r intrested in more theory and science then you should go for IIST but if you are more interested in technology, engineering and placements then go for IITH
