Dear Aspirant,
Go for IIST
IIST is better than NIT delhi
The goal of IIST is to focus on space science and produce good scientist
If you have a choice between these two,you are a good student surely
Whatever you do seriously, you will be succesful.
You have a better placement opportunities to in IIST

How good are iiest and iist for btech

rishabritab100_9306688 Student Expert 2nd Jun, 2019

Hi Karan ! IIEST as well as IIST both are one of the best government colleges in India. IIST focuses on b.tech on space technology and space related technologies and it is Thiruvananthapuram Kerala. In the mean time IIEST is in west Bengal and it ranks 23rd in nirf ranking whereas the former rank within 30-36. One can get quality education and placement from these colleges. But IIST admit students through JEE advance but IIEST admit students through JEE main. But yes not every stream is good in IIEST, that is CSE,ECE, electrical, aeronautical are good here. So best of luck to you.

What is the rank needed in jee advanced to get seat in iist?

Ketaki Dhotre Student Expert 1st Jun, 2019

Dear Mukesh,

To get admission in iist you need to keep in mind the following points:

  • Candidates must clear the JEE Advanced exam.

  • General category candidates must score at least 20% marks in JEE Advanced i.e 72 marks out of 360 and at least 6 marks out of 120 in each of the three subjects

  • OBC-NCL candidates must score at least 65 marks out of 360 marks and 5 marks out of 120 in each of the three subjects

  • SC, ST & PD candidates must score at 10% marks i.e 36 marks out of 360 and 3 marks out of 120 in each of the three subjects.

The number of seats reserved for different categories is:

  • Scheduled Caste (SC): 15%

  • Scheduled Tribes (ST): 7.5%

  • Persons with Disabilities (PD): 5% (Horizontal Reservation

  • Other Backward Classes (OBC) belonging to Non-Creamy Layer (NCL): 27%

So basically I would say your rank must be below 8000 if you are a general category student.

Hope this helps!

All the best!
