Indian Institute of Technology Banaras Hindu University Varanasi
Hello Ramesh!
According to your rank you will get IIT Dhanbad,IIT BHU in mining engineering department .Both the colleges are good in terms of academic, average package, infrastructure. So you can take any of these two colleges.
You can change your branch after first year if you have good cpi in first two semester (CPI: Cumulative Performance Index)
Since both of these branches are completely different from each other, you should go for what you like.
After taking any engineering course, only placement and college doesnt matter. What matters how well you are interested in that course and give your best.
As far these courses are concerned both of these are pretty good in terms of college as well as placements.
If you like semiconductor part then u should go for IIT BHU electronics other wise go for IITD Chemical.
Hello Pawan ,
Your home state is not a concern to get any IITs . What you require is the rank which you have , so you might get a chance to study Civil Engineering from the top notch IITs . Below here are the names of few IITs where you might get a chance( Civil engineering ) . I am also listing the previous year cutoff along with that -
I hope I have answered your query . If still you have any doubt the do ask us .
Good Luck !!!
You are very correct that IIT Bhu has a strong alumni network aincs it is very old.
On the contrary IIT Hyderabad is relatively new , but the placement have been very good in the previous year as compared to IIT Bhu. IIT Hyderabad being new has new and updated infrastructure and hostel facility but IIT Bhu has old infrastructure which are renovated. IIT Hyderabad is rising through ranks in the years and it will attain new heights in the years to come.
So if you consider my opinion then you should definitely go to iit Hyderabad.
Good luck!
Hey vishal!
I see that you have not mentioned the name of exam .So , i consider the exam to be JEE ADVANCED and your 1114 rank to be JEE ADVANVED ST category rank.
So , if we see the previous year cutoff trends for JEE ADVANCED ranks for ST category , then the cutoffs usually open with a rank of around 700 and until the last round of counselling , they close at a rank of around 900 for metallurgical engineering. And cutoffs usually fluctuate every year , so there is nothing that can be predicted with full chance of occuring. All we can say is just on the basis of previous year cutoffs. And following that , we can say that you have no chances of getting a seat in metallurgical engineering at IIT BHU because your rank is more than 900.
You can also check the previous year JEE ADVANCED cutoffs for IIT BHU for ST category by following the given link :

Well , this is not a thing to get disheartened because there are many other good colleges where you can get a seat in metallurgical engineering like NIT , WARANGAL , MNIT JAIPUR etc.
To predict your chances in other colleges on the basis of your JEE ADVANCED rank , use JEE ADVANCED college predictor tool;

Hope it helps!
Hi Soma,
Firstly, I would like to congratulate you for achieving such a brilliant rank. So now to answer your question, IIT BHU( Varanasi) offers 14 5-year Dual Degree( B.Tech + M.Tech) courses out of which one of them is Mathematics and Computing Engineering, which is your preference.
Past years cutoff ranges for the mentioned stream under GENERAL CATEGORY has been:
2018 - 1136 to 1439 (GENDER NEUTRAL CATEGORY)-ROUND 1
2018 - 1136 to 1474 (GENDER NEUTRAL CATEGORY)- LAST ROUND
2017 - 1281 to 1548 (ROUND 1)
2017 - 1281 to 1657 (LAST ROUND)
2016 - 1127 TO 1464
So seeing the above trends its highly probable that you can easily expect a seat for Mathematics and Computing Engineering in IIT Varanasi.
Also, keep in mind that these ranks are for Gender Neutral Category so therefore you would also have an edge at counseling since the cutoff tends to increase for the FEMALE ONLY seats and therefore you have a high probability for your selection for your desired course.
GOOD LUCK AND BEST WISHES!
It is very tough rank to decide but it is all the matter of luck sometimes. It happens when students have to freeze, float or slide option.Candidates who understand these options correctly, who may not have enough marks for the particular college bugt may end up in a college better than they deserve. It all happens at the time of counselling. So be familiar withh these option.
Thanks for connecting.Team Careers360.
Dear candidate........,
Well, basing upon your rank in JEE ADVANCED, you have the chance for getting admission into IIT BHU for dual degree ME. But since you're a general candidate, its better to apply for colleges in your own home state so that the chances of getting admission are high. But still you can give it a try at the time of counseling.
Hope this helps you out........
Best of luck:)
