The counselling of IIT is through COAP(Common Offer Acceptance Portal) and that of NITs is through CCMT(Centralized Counselling for M.Tech).

The first round of COAP will start from May 14 and the fifth round is from June 23.

The first round of CCMT starts on May 3 rd and the third round on May 31.Online withdrawal can be done till Jun 7.

The NSR ( national spot round ) for NITs will be published on July 20.

So you will get enough time to choose between IIT and NIT.

Choosing better course and college requires various parameters to be considered.

Firstly your interest is what matters. You have to select the course of your interest also taking into account the scope and career oppurtunities.

If you get top Nits with better placement records and ranking than some new IITs with low records , it would be better to go with NIT.

But there is an IIT tag that you will miss. So the final decision is yours.

As first credit goes to computer science. So for C.S department general rank is about 60 to 120 A.I.R. approx. But for the civil department, it is about 500 to 900 A.I.R. in general category. So this varies from department to department and also varies depending upon the category that you belong to. But for general category students that is about 4000 general rank for any branch.

Definetly IIT Guwahati CSE If by placements you meant Top MNC Companies with Coding Profiles like Google, Facebook, Yahoo,Amazon and hot startups like Flipkart

Although for Amazon it doesn't matter as long as you are good enough in Algorithms

For sitting in Day 0 Campus placement in these top companies you need to be CSE Undergraduate.

On the top of that you will be Studying CSE which you will be working in later part of life if you aim to be in these companies .

This answer is solely based on the Placement requirement.. there are cases where you have better life by opting Masters/PhD in Electronics (BioElectronics etc).

I have know people more than a few friends who are working in IT Industry coming from IIT Guwahati CSE / Roorkee ECE, based on their work satisfaction and Curretn CTC I am advising you to opt IITG CSE over IIT Roorkee ECE/Guwahati ECE if your ultimate goal is to be placed well at the end of 4years and have good work satisfaction.

But it all depends on what interests it you

• If you look mathematics and statistics opt CSE ( in Feature you might be working on Machine Learning Algoritms)
• If you are interested in physics of everything and like to work on chip level system design opt ECE, you might struggle a lot to study and usually your B.Tech is not enough to work in the same field

Polymer science and technology placement in IIT Delhi is good if you want to take placements in teaching and consultancy. But for it you must have good score in your academics and must be good in programming. But if you looking for core placement you may have feeble chances and you might not get a good package which you aspire for after studying in IIT.
