1. Placements: Placements are almost same in both of them. So that shouldn't be the criteria of ruling anyone out.

2. Higher studies: Both the colleges have numerous MoUs with foreign universities for exchange programmes. IIT Madras has MoUs with premier institutes all over the world like UC, San Diego, University of IllInois, Rice University, Purdue University, Penn State, EPFL Switzerland, NUS Singapore, PoliMi, and many more. It depends on your interest about the domain in which you want to pursue your career. Definitely, IIT Madras tag is a laurel compare to IIT Bhubaneswar. But, what will help in your future is the branch and knowledge. So, I will vouch for Mechanical Engineering at IIT Bhubaneswar rather than Metallurgical Engineering at IIT Bombay.

placement in both the colleges for both of these branches are around 80%-85% in IIT Bombay the average package for civil engineering was around 7-9 lakhs per annum and the lowest lies around 3-4 lakhs for IIT Dhanbad the average package for mechanical engineering is 7-8 lakhs per annum and the lowest lies around 3-5 lakhs per annum but i will recommend you to choose a branch which you want to do then only you will succeed in future and get a good placement

I think you should try to opt mechanical engineering from IIT BHU if you want to be branch specific as mechanical engineering is better branch than metallurgy . But if you want to be college specific then you should go for IIT Kharagpur as it is one of oldest IIT'S . Placements are very good in both colleges but IIT Kharagpur is ahead of IIT BHU . Listen your heart friend .
