you can appear in gate exam from any subject. different iits has different rules for subject option. like iit kharagpur does not allow other branches of engineering to do mtech in computer science field. you need to appear in gate from cse paper to do mtech. this is because

No IITs in India offer B.Sc biotechnology. And also PCB group are not eligible to study in IIT but you can join IIT for msc biotechnology through IIT jam examination.

Dear Megha, yes. For admission to IIT, you need to appear for both JEE Mains and JEE Advanced. If you want to study in an IIT, you need to appear for both JEE Mains and JEE Advanced. JEE Advanced is the entrance examination for admission to IITs, NITs and GFTIs.

The eligibility is as follows-

Have more than 75% and more or be in top 20 percentile of respective board.

This was for general category, for sc/st it will be 65%
