Hello Aspirant.12000 ranks is not getting into you iits because even the branches like mettalurgical and petroleum engineering goes around 10000.You can try for B.Sc degree and their integrated degrees in B.Sc if you want.However there is a low of your B.Tech degree.

When you take admission in any IIT through a preparatory course, then you are not alloted any branch during the time of admission.
During first year you are not taught any engineering but only 11th and 12th science and maths and after 1 year you give exams.

As per your rank of 3905 in OBC-NCL category you won't get the top notch IITs. However , in the other IITs you may get a chance. Again in IITs the cutoff varies for different branches.
