Indian Institute of Technology Madras
IIT Madras has recently upgraded its position in the top engineering colleges of India and is currently way better than IIT Hyderabad in terms of infrastructure, faculty, quality of learning and placements. But, since you want to compare two different courses, you might have to look into your personal reasons for doing the course. Mechanical Engineering is the branch that uses the physics of motion and kinetics to develop machines and maintain mechanical systems. While electrical engineering applies the physics of electrostatics, electrodynamics, and magnetism to generate and transmit energy. So, you have to decide which course appeals more to you. Because, in the end, your course will definitely matter more than your college. However, if you feel you can do both these subjects, then I suggest going for IIT Madras for the sake of its reputation.
Dear candidate, IIT MADRAS does offer this course but at Post Graduate level. IIT Bombay offers degree in Petroleum exploration at PG level but you need to do BSc or MSc as background not engineering. ISM is equivalent to IIT which offers degree in PE at UG, PG and Ph.D level.
All the best
Feel free to ask for any query
Hi Ramkrishna!
Acc. to me it actually depends on your choice or interest beacuse some student prefer college over branch and remaining prefer branch over college..According to me give preference to branch over college because many student prefer college and think he/she able to change branch in 2nd year of b.tech but branch change in any IIT is very difficult . If you can't able to chance your branch then you feel regret whole life for giving preference to college over branch.
And according to placement cells of all IIT’S , CSE always been good for us , because CSE have more core sector jobs then other branch. If you have any doubt in branch selection then you must go with CSE BRANCH. IIT-Madras definitely have better cultural, fest, infrastructure , alumni and placement cell but in 2nd generation and 3rd generation iit’s is still growing.. but 2nd generation is well established and core branch of these iit’s are really good…
So i think lot for your college and branch preference, but according to me give preference to branch over college.
or if you do not have any specific interest in computer science, then prefer better college.

Thank you and Good Luck.
Hello,
I congratulate you for getting such a high rank in JEE Advanced 2019 . According to your rank you can't get CSE in IIT Madras but you are eligible for Electrical Engineering in this college . But don't be sad as you can easily get CSE in IIT Delhi , IIT Kanpur , IIT Roorkee and IIT Kharagpur .
I wish you all the best for the counselling !
Hello Rishabh,
The college Vs branch is one of the most common question in an aspirants mind. It clearly depends on which branch you are more interested in. As IIT M as well as BITS Pilani both are two of the best colleges in India. While Engineering Physics is more of a research oriented branch, CSE is job oriented. The purpose of your engineering and your interest are the only thing which should be deciding your college now. With engineering physics you would be getting deep knowledge of physics as well as accumen for engineering practices. You might be writing scientific papers in physics. In CSE, you will be getting a lot of opportunities in the booming software sector of India and might learn about machine learning and AI better than other branches.
Still, if you are doing engineering for jobs, you should do BITS Pilani CSE as it's avg package is 22L which is a great package to start with.
Hello Suhas,
Taking into account the preparatory rank that you have got, it might be a little difficult to get IIT Madras, but you should be able to get other less preferred IITs, i.e, newer IITs

Dear candidate......,
Well, first of all congratulations for securing a remarkable rank in JEE ADVANCED 2019. Yes you may definitely get admission into some of the IITs but you may not get your desired branch like computer science engineering, etc. But still you can give it a try at the time of counseling and it's better if you apply for colleges in your own home state so that the chances of getting your desired branch are high.
Hope this helps you out......
Best of luck:)
Hello Raima,
The GATE cutoff score for non PWD candidates in 2018 were as follows on the basis of the category:
General - 483
OBC - 430
SC - 335
The cutoffs for 2019 should be approximately the same as the difference in difficulty level was not much.
Some additional information about GATE :
Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is a national-level post-graduate entrance exam that is jointly conducted by the seven IITs (Bombay, Delhi, Kanpur, Guwahati, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee) and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore for admission to M.Tech programmes offered by government as well as many private institutes.
GATE 2019 was organized by Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras in online mode on February 2, 3, 9 and 10, 2019.
COAP is conducted by IITs (IIT Madras in 2019) to facilitate admissions of aspirants in M.Tech programs of IITs. The candidates after applying to the IITs of their choice on the basis of the GATE scores, have to necessrily apply for COAP.
CCMT is conducted for admissions to M.Tech programs of NITs by different NITs (NIT Rourkela in 2019).
