IGNOU conducts exam twice a year , in moth of June and December. But due to pandemic the December exams has been delayed. Also, IGNOU has released the tentative datesheet for December 2020 exams which would most probably be conducted in the month of February 2021, you can check out the datesheet here:

BAG course duration is 3 years with 2 semesters each year, means total 6 semesers. And term-end examination is conducted every year after each semester. So, IGNOU conducts exam twice a year in month of June and December. You can visit here for more information:

Financial assistance is offered to SC Students in IGNOU, but you haven't mentioned you want to pursue which course, nevertheless IGNOU has study centre all over India, but they come under specific regional centre, you can check out the study centre of RC Trivandrum at http://rctrivandrum.ignou.ac.in/Ignou-RC-Trivandrum//userfiles/file/LSC%20LIST%20AS%20ON%2015-07-2020.pdf , also you can check out RC Cochin at http://rccochin.ignou.ac.in/userfiles/file/Annexure%201-1f_Details%20of%20Active%20LSCs-on%2022_11_2019.pdf , and IGNOU does offer admission to students on provisional basis such as those who are in final year and haven't received the original documents, but in that case within a stipulated time period candidates are required to show the proof of their passing documents.

So as far as BA English(Hons.) is concerned , the subjects that will be covered are History of English Literature & History of Indian Writing in English,Poetry: Sidney to Gray,Modern Drama,Essays & Stories,Elizabethan Drama,British Poetry & Indian Poetry in English,Novel and Philology, Phonetics & Modern Grammar. Regarding language it will be an elective subject in most universities and you may other languages options to choose from, the options will vary with colleges . Your son can take up another language which will be taught from basics. So the best way to know is by contacting the english department of the college you want about this concern . It is not like that Indira Gandhi National Open University IGNOU is not considered good university. IGNOU is run by the central government of India, and with total active enrollment of over 4 million students, claims to be the largest university in the world. It is just that IGNOU does not offer regular courses, otherwise for open distance learning courses IGNOU is top most choice for many students.
