Need a suggestion my son score is 89.5 in JEE mains obc from Chennai. Does he able to get mechanical engineering in any nit or iiit in south india

Devika Malik 25th May, 2026

Hi,

With 89.5 percentile and OBC category, top South Indian NITs like National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli or National Institute of Technology Warangal for Mechanical are honestly very difficult.

But he still has decent chances in newer NITs like National Institute of Technology Puducherry and possibly National Institute of Technology

  • National Institute of Technology Karnataka

is unlikely because their cutoffs for core branches are much higher.

However, you still have realistic chances
