Only students enrolled in basic science are eligible to apply for KVPY fellowship and not B.Tech. students. Courses you should pursue are B.Sc.,B.S.,B.Stat.,B.maths, integrated M.Sc. or MS.

KVPY is a national level fellowship programme for shortlisitng candidates pursuing research in Science, which is conducted for three streams, such as SA, SX and SB. Students who are studying in Class 11th, 12th and first year of graduation in Science subjects are eligible to apply for KVPY

You can appear for KVPY SB stream only if you are pursuing 1st year in Basic Science programme namely Physics/Chemistry/Mathematics & Biology during 2018–19 and have secured a minimum of 60% in Maths and Science subjects (Physics/Chemistry/Biology) in the XII Standard Board Examination. To appear in KVPY, you must secure atleast 75% aggregate marks in mathematics and science. There is a relaxation of 10% marks for SC,ST and Pwd candidates.
