your questions is not clear. i am assuming you are doing manufacturing engineering and give gate from mechanical engineering. a student can give gate from any engineering field, and when you are applying in any company you need to give your full details, and if you get selected you will get call unless not.

so before doing mtech research the career prospect of the subject you are taking.

In PSU, there are sufficient vacancies for electronics students.

As far as the benefit in gate exam is concerned, it depends on how people are preparing for GATE in your branch. Like- in Mechanical, electronics, computer science, civil, instrumentation, electrical, in these branches MADEEASY is providing the coaching. Every year 5–6000 MADEEASY students appear in GATE in every branch and all of them are almost at same level. So, competition is going to be sharp in these branches.

On the other hand, the branches in which MADE EASY doesn't provide coaching experience less stiff competition. Eg- chemical, metallurgy, aerospace. But PSU have less vacancies for these branches.

you may apply from any of the streams as mechanical or production engineering. see when psus hire for mechanical branch it also mandatory that they must completed their bachelors degree from mechanical engineering. so weather you choose mechanical or production it really doesnot effect much on psus hiring. to tell the truth there is not much requirement for manufacturing engineering and technology on gate basis. some company like MDL, iocl, ongc some times hire. most of the candidates choose mtech through gate. after mtech there is lot of scope in industry.
