NIT Silchar is one of the best college in india, specially for mechanical branch, but it is mostly for UG Courses.I mean more job opportunities are for B.tech students.Placement for M.tech is not so good,if you are good in writing some good research paper and academics then you may get a job.But for a good job and confirmed placements mostly IIT's are choosed.Although NIT Silchar has good facilities, libray ,infrastructure and faculities. For getting a degree and good knowledge you may join this college. But is not very great incase of M.tech placement.I hope it helped
Hib! In m.tech interview they will basically test your communication skills and hence it is also called personality test. They will not ask you much about technical issues for they know you are already tested with gate question paper. They will test your general knowledge and social awareness. So remain free and feel confident. So hope you understand and best of luck to you.

As your VITMEE rank is 2010 and you want to get VLSI for M.tech in VIT Vellore, there is a chance of you getting it. But as your rank is a bit high so you may not get it in 1st round or second, you may have to wait for the spot round or wait list to get the seat in VLSI. So I would suggest you keep a track on the number of vacant seat available after each round and make plan accordingly
