The pattern of examination varies from country to country. However, the syllabi are same, in general based on the IMO model course. Moreover you cant get previous year question papers but you  can get sample question papers from IMU official site.

Look It is not easy getting previous year papers. You just need to revise your class X-XII syllabus. Your basics should be clear. NCERT books are helpful. Attempt all the questions as there is no negative marking. You can only join Merchant Navy once you have cleared IMU-CET Exam.

LIST OF BEST MARITIME COURSES FOR GETTING MERCHANT NAVY JOB



1B.E./B.TECH. MARINE ENGINEERING

This is a 4 years long Undergraduate Program. On completion of the program, successful candidates are provided Class 4 Marine Engineer Officer Certificate of Competency. This certificate is awarded by the Ministry of Shipping.

2 GME COURSE

GME course is a pre-sea training course for Graduates. It is a1 yearlong program. On completion of the program, candidates are awarded the Class 4 Marine Engineer Officer Certificate of Competency. This certificate is awarded by the Ministry of Shipping, India.

3B.SC. NAUTICAL SCIENCE

This one is a3 years long Bachelor of Science Degree course. On completion of the course, candidates are awarded the Second Mates Foreign Going Certificate of Competency. This certificate is awarded by the Ministry of Shipping, India.

4 DME COURSE (DIPLOMA MARINE ENGINEERING)

This is a2 yearslong pre-sea training course for Diploma holders. On completion of the course, candidates are awarded Class 4 Marine Engineer Certificate of Competency. Ministry of Shipping, India, provides this certificate.


5 GP RATING COURSE

GP Ratingstands forGeneral Purpose Rating. It is a6 monthslong course. After completion of the course, candidates may join Merchant Navy ships as Deck or Engine crew. Along with sea service, they may also rise through ranks, depending on their performance.

6 DECK RATING COURSE

Though GP Ratings course covers aspects of deck crew training, separate deck crew training courses are also available. The pre sea training course lasts 6 months.

7 ENGINE RATING COURSE

Though GP Ratings course covers aspects of engine crew training, separate engine crew training courses are also available. The pre sea training course lasts 6 months.

8 SALOON RATING COURSE

It is a 6 months long pre sea training course. Saloon course focuses on the catering department of a merchant navy ship. It trains students and makes them capable of taking up responsibilities in the catering department aboard merchant navy ships.

9 NCV COURSE

NCV stands for Near Coastal Voyage. It is a 6 months long training program. The initial training program will be followed by 24 months offshore training or 18 months with distance learning program.

10 STCW BASIC SAFETY TRAINING

STCW stands for Standards of Training and Certification of Watchkeeping. This training program is the minimum requirement needed to begin a career aboard a ship! The basic training course consists of 4 modules, Personal Survival Techniques, Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting, Elementary First Aid and Personal Safety & Social Responsibility.


11 DIPLOMA IN NAUTICAL SCIENCE

Other than B.Sc. Nautical Science course, Diploma version of Nautical Science is another course available on front of merchant navy aspirants. The course followed by 18 months of sea service will lead to 2nd mate foreign going certificate from the Ministry of Shipping, along with a B.Sc. Nautical Science Degree!

12 COMMERCIAL DIVING

If you want an adrenaline filled job, commercial diving will suit you! The job of a commercial diver involves diving under water and performing tasks like survey, welding, cable laying, obstacle spotting and removing, underwater cutting etc.

13 ELECTRO TECHNICAL OFFICER (ETO) COURSE

ETO training course will help eligible candidates become Electrical Officers aboard merchant navy ships. Electrical Officers are responsible for maintaining and supervising all the electrical and electronic equipment present in a ship.

You need to do below mentioned things to become a deck officer
You can join the merchant navy from age 16 onwards as an officer cadet or marine apprentice and train as a deck rating. You will at least four GCSEs (grades A-C), or equivalent qualifications. These should include English, maths and physics (or combined science).
You must have good eyesight and be physically fit, as you will have to pass a medical before you can start training.You can also start your career after completing an industry-backed foundation degree, HND or degree at university. These courses usually include on board practical training

It is safe as long as you do this from a good and reputed college which can help you get placement at the end and if you do that from a low level college than it will be a waste of money. So you should try to get into a good college for merchant Navy.

Unfortunately, you need to have Mathematics as a compulsory subject if you want to appear for IMU-CET exam, which is the entrance test conducted for Merchant Navy. This is mandatory.

However, through PCB, you can get a related course to become a doctor in the Merchant Navy, but this path is very complicated.
