Metallurgy branch is a part of mechanical branch.
If you want to do engineering in Metallurgy then i will suggest you to NIT Jamshedpur.
Jamshedpur is a industrial area. TATA STEEL hire too many engineers from NIT Jamshedpur. Also metallurical engineers works in TATA STEEL with good salary.
The placement of Metallurgy students in NIT jamshedpur is very good.

I think that if you have chance for getting nit then don't think just go for it because as we all know that nit is one of the good colleges of India and all branches are good in nit.placement record is very good and every year many top companies are coming for recruiting students.so that you can go for metallurgical and material engineering.

Yes, metallurgical engineering student can give RAS or IAS exam.
The elligibilty criteria for RAS exam:
Age Limit: Candidate must have attained the age of 21 years but must have not crossed the age of 35 years for State Services & 25 years to 45 years for Subordinate Services.
Educational Qualification: Candidate must hold a Bachelor’s degree of a recognized University or equivalent qualification.
The eligibility criteria for IAS exam:
Age Limit:
General- 32 years
OBC- 35 years
ST/SC- 37 years
Physically disabled candidates- 42 years
Jammu and Kashmir Domicile- General:37 years, OBC:40 years, ST/SC:42 years, PH:50 years
Education Qualification: A degree of any University incorporated by the Act of Central or State Legislature in India.

If you are a OTHER STATE candidate then it is not possible for you to get it but if you are a HOME STATE Candidate then you will surely get it but you will have to wait till 7th round.
