National Institute of Technology Agartala
Hello,
This doubt of college vs branch is very common among students. I always advise aspirants to prioritize your interest above all other things. As in most cases, you have to study a particular branch for four long years before any chance of change thus interest in the branch should be given preference.
Coming to the colleges, both are NITs, Agartala being established very early and made NIT in 2005 whereas Meghalaya being established in 2010. NIT Meghalaya is a fast-growing NIT and ensures decent placement and environment for a CSE student. It still is in its initial phase in my opinion NIT Agartala will edge over it in terms of students studying and the competitive environment you will get there. Considering the placements, CSE and ECE both are almost equivalent in placements in general cases. You can forget core companies of ECE or CSE in both the colleges. Coding related jobs will be provided in both the colleges but the presence of stronger alumni network means more companies will be visiting NIT AGARTALA.
My final advice is that you should take NIT Agartala ECE over NIT Meghalaya and if you get circuit related branch in NIT Silcher, to go for it.
Hello Aman
As per the latest MHRD rankings, NIT Agartala's rank is 52. That's a very good rank.
Now onto IIITs. IIIT Ranchi is relatively new and shares a campus with NIT Jamshedpur. So, it's not as good as NIT Agartala. IIIT Dharward is also not very good. There is no variety in courses offered there. It's important to have a campus life and NIT Agartala is an old and established college.Go for it.
All the best!
In any parameter, NIT Agartala is way better than Satyabhama University in terms of CS Dept. Most of the professors in NIT Agartala have P.Hd and publish their own research papers regularly. They are very friendly and it would be easy to establish contact with them as compared to Satyabhama University where 1.5k students are there in the CSE Department. NIT Agartala, being a government institute also has an MoU with ISRO for incubation center and houses a supercomputer in the department. The civil department is fairly old in NITA and provides ample opportunity for students to gain knowledge in their sector. With the strength of 180 students, its the most populous branch in NIT Agartala and thus you would never get short of helping seniors ECE dept has its own building and the professors are arguably best among all other branches in NIT Agartala. Considering the placements also, many core companies visit campus throughout the year and with little effort, you can definitely secure a good placement.
If you are purely thinking about placements after your degree you should go against Satyabhama University due to its declining records. Otherwise, with its top-notch campus and infrastructure with qualified faculty, it is just above an average college for engineering.
Thanks

Finally, I would advise you that teachers in any engineering college in India is as good as the student. Thus faculty are more or less same but all other factors weigh the scale towards NIT Agartala.
The NITs you mentioned are part of the institutes of national importance in India. As you may know, NIT Nagaland and NIT Meghalaya have been established in 2010, I would rate these NITs a bit lower than the other two NITs due to their lack of infrastructure and established alumni network. They are in their infant stages only, thus I would take them out of the discussion.
Now comes the other two NITs Agartala and Srinagar, while Srinagar was earlier an RIT and thus always was a premier institute of India. Agartala is also a fairly old institute established in the 50s and 60s. They have a very established campus and alumni network. NIT Agartala has many new investments in infrastructure which I have heard is getting is not renovated in NIT Srinagar. Another important thing is the location, the city Srinagar. While it is generally safe inside the NIT campus but the news of constant fights and disturbances are common. The unsafe city environment might also ruin your stay and experience as well as your placements.
Thus I would suggest you choose NIT Agartala above other mentioned options. Feel free to ask about NIT-A to me as I am myself part of this college.
The doubt of one college vs another college is very common. I always advise my juniors to give priority to branch until and unless college is extremely good. In your case, colleges are almost at a similar level right now, considering every factor. Firstly, the scopes for IT and CSE are more or less same but here the fact that NIT-A is established since ages will give an edge to the college due to the strong alumni network. Also, the tag of a NITian still holds more value in the outside world as compared to being IIITian. So, in my opinion, choosing CS from NIT is a better choice.
Hi Kartheek,
Congratulations for getting such a good score in JEE mains. Now for your choice of NIT, that is agartala, It totally depends on the certain factors on what college you should take.
1. Academics: Faculties are moderately good, but most of the time you need to depend on your own study. CSE, ECE, EE, ME, CIVIL are good branches to consider.
2. Hostels & Facilities : Hostels are best. Most of the hostels are newly constructed. However they are quite far from academic blocks, also the campus is huge. Mess food is shit though as expected. WiFi connectivity across the whole campus is good. Libraries are good with good, digital libraries readily available.
3. Location: Agartala is a very remote city with little development, also the college is in a remote area. Although Buses and taxies are readily available.
4. Placements: Placement is not very much impressive. Generally 2–3 IT service based companies (like Infosys, IBM, Wipro, Tech Mahindra etc) visit for mass campus drives. They hire like 70–150 people in a slot. Overall placement for CSE is better. But ME placements are not that impressive.
5. Other Factors: Many people drop-out from colleges within 2-3 years due to the shear reason that the teachers are not cooperative and due to this students don’t score good marks.
I hope I was able to clear your doubts
If you have any other queries then do post them
Thank you
Hello Alam, NIT Agartala is one of the very lower ranked and relatively newer NITs and not uphelded for excellence in academics much. So the MBA course there might not be worth it to join, but being an NIT has its certain perks too. so you might still give it a shot.
Previous MBA students have been placed in the following companies/organisations
