As per your query I would glad to tell you that in my opinion you should go for college over branch because at the end the goal of majority of the students is placement for which you need college of very good brand . Moroever , if we talk about branch in placements student of all branches sit together only so if you keen interest in coding and have potential to score dsa then you will easily be placed in from chemical stream too

I think your first should be IIIT Lucknow because it has better coding culture and placement. It ranks higher than NIT.
Then your second Choice should be NIT Jalandhar
- NIT jamshedpur
- IIIT Gwalior

In the year 2019, about 80% of the students from the course got placed. The highest salary package offered is 10.5 LPA, and the lowest package salary package offered is 3.6 LPA. In the year 2018, almost 90% of the students got placed with the highest salary package of 14 LPA. Top recruiting companies like Samsung, Amazon, HSBC, etc., visit the campus for placements.
MTech is all about research and being in Nit Hamirpur is a great experience.
You have good options for PHD in reputed colleges like IIT, IISC etc. You will get preference being an student of NIT. if you have good relation with your guide then you will get More chances of admission in NIT Hamirpur Itself.
You will easily get teaching job(campus placement) in colleges like TMU,LPU,CU etc With average package of 30k to 45k per month.
There is no problem with doing your masters at the age of 27 and that too in a NIT. This will definitely give your career a jump and you will get better opportunities ahead.

NIT Durgapur has seen better brand recognition and ranks higher to NIT Hamirpur. NIT durgapur has an average package of 6lpa for Chemical engineering while NIT Hamirpur Has 5.5lpa for Mechanical engineering, overall both have baove 85% placements. All in all its equivalent to consider both of them.

According to your percentile if you come under the home state of Himachal Pradesh then there are good chances of getting in NIT Hamirpur and even fortunately you could also get a good branch, but if you come under the outer state quota then there are very less chances that you could get top branch, so you can expect low branches.
