I can get Mechanical branch at NIT Patna with state quota and Metallurgy at NIT Jamshedpur (OS) as per the last year cut off. Should I go for NIT Patna Or NIT Jamshedpur? Is metallurgy good over mechanical?

Manidipa Kundu Student Expert 11th May, 2020

hi,

see you did not mention your percentile or score anything, which can not help us to give you any predictable college, however you may use jee  main college predictor to know about you predictable college,

https://engineering.careers360.com/jee-main-college-predictor

see nit jamshedpur and nit pattna both of the nits is excellent in terms of placement, infrastructure and faculty. now coming to metallurgical engineering, it is a part of mechanical engineering, and some of the syllabus has similarity with chemical engineering, however job and career view prospect, mechanical engineering is better choice then metallurgical engineering.

Is metallurgy a good choice to choose for doing b tech from nit jamshedpur?

chinmayi 1st May, 2020

Hello,

Doing B.Tech in Metallurgy from NIT Jamshedpur is a good choice. The faculty are good and they provide the appropriate content. There are plenty of opportunities in Metallurgy and some of the top companies like TATA, Vedanta steel etc visit the college to recruit students. The placement record in NIT Jamshedpur is good when compared to other NIT's. But you should work hard and make use of four years and gain knowledge. So, metallurgy is a very good choice as it has a lot of scope in the future.

Hope this helps you.

Can I get NIT Jamshedpur metallurgy branch if Ive 88.91 percentile from sc category and from bihar?

Aniket Sharma 28th Apr, 2020

hi Jitendra,

I hope you are doing well. Regarding your percentile i.e. 88.91 percentile your CRL rank should be greater than 1 lakh and should be in range of 1 lakh - 1.25 lakh. Now in NITs you get admission on the basis of your SC rank not on the basis of your CRL rank. Your SC rank is difficult to predict as it depends on the no. of the candidate participating in JEE Mains. And no. of SC candidates participating in JEE Mains varies every year. But by rough estimation your SC rank should be around 5k. According to last year(2019) NIT Jamshedpur cutoff :

If you have home state quota then you can get: civil, electrical, mechanical, metallurgy, production.

If you have other state quota then you can get: metallurgy, production.

I hope this answer will help.
All the best for the future!!

is there any branches that i can get in NIT JAMSHEDPUR. with a score of 93.91 percentile being an obc-ncl female student with homestate quota ?

S. Saha Student Expert 22nd Apr, 2020
Based on your percentile, your expected rank would be in the range of 60,000 to 70,000 in CRL. It is really difficult to predict the cutoff as it depends on various factors. But going by previous years' cutoff, you have chances to get
Civil Engineering
Metallurgical and Materials
Production engineering

is there any chance of admission in NIT JAMSHEDPUR with any branch if Ive got 93.91 percentile in jee mains january 2020 , i am an obc female student from Jharkhand .

Yash Dev Student Expert 16th Apr, 2020
Hello student you can easily calculate and get your rank by using this formula.
(100-your total percentile) 869010 /100
In your case your rank must be around 52,922.
Im sorry to inform you but with this rank its difficult to get admission in nit jamshedpur with obt category, going with previous year cutoffs the last rank to get admission in metallurgical and materials engineering was 18,375(Femal Statequota).

Cut off vary every year on various factors like the level of question in the entrance examination and total number of applicants in that examination.

Aditi amrendra Student Expert 15th Apr, 2020
Hello,

You don't need to show OBC certificate or Income Certificate to avail benefits of home state quota.
The state from where you did your 12th board exam is your Home state quota by default.Since, you did your schooling from Jharkhand you can get seat under home state quota.

Good Luck

which college is better for electrical engineering NIT SILCHAR OR NIT JAMSHEDPUR?

Shiksha 14th Apr, 2020

Hello!

Nit silchar and nit jamshedpur, both are good for Cse branch as they have 100% placements. But for EE (electrical engineering) nit jamshedpur is better than nit silchar. The placements are above avg in both the colleges but the highest placements figure in nit jamshedpur is higher. Not many companies come for campus in nit silchar for EE. If you're in top 5-10 in nit silchar, you've good chances to land in PSUs. Nit silchar has a good campus but nit jamshedpur has location advantage.

I hope this helps
