NIT rourkela has better score and rank than Nit Calicut. As NIRF ranking is based on various factors like placements, academics, infrastructure.So you can get idea from it. But it does not mean that Nit Calicut is lower,NIRF ranking changes every year and according to me both are at the same place in terms of better college.Now it's totally depends on you that which college attracts you in terms of your preference like distance from your home,campus, placement etc.

Both are the one of best Nits in India and you are lucky that you are getting seat in any of the above Nits. Both are equally good you can choose any of them according to your preference.

There's no doubt NIT Rourkela is one of the prestigious colleges in the country, with great infrastructure, faculty and placements. Although the industrial design branch is fairly new the placements are decent. Based on the data available, last year about 85% students were placed with the highest salary of 14 LPA and lowest being 4 LPA. Some great companies like Byju's design and Think design were part of the recruitment. So yes, NIT Rourkela for Industrial design is definitely a good option.

I would suggest you Production Engineering at NIT RKL.

Industrial Design is not much of an Engineering Subject, hence the dearth of opportunitues in an Engineering College like NIT Rourkela. Of course there are fair chances for going for a Masters degree in design in France or UK or perhaps at one of the IITs or National Institute of Design.

As far as Production Technology is concerned, it is one of the most student oriented branches with key aspects of Operations Management. There are core courses like Production and Inventory control and Operations Research while the non core courses taught include Optimization and Analytics. Most of the companies recruiting Mechanical Engineers mostly also open for Production Engineers and the average package lies anywhere between 5-7 LPA.

A rank of 45371 in CRL and a rank of 11911 in obc-ncl is a bit low but since you belong to obc category, your chances have increased. The competition is increasing more and more and hence you need a higher rank to get into the top universities. Unfortunately the top nits and IIITs would be tough to get into with this score. Since you are specifically asking for NIT rourkela, the cutoff for branches like CSE or EEE or Mechanical or ECE is a bit high since the university is a bit high ranked one and these are high demand courses

And, since you have mentioned that you belong to the obc category, the chances of you getting into some some of these universities are a bit on the higher side.
