National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli
Hello Ratan,
NIT TRICHY(CSE) is a good institution . You should not go for drop a year for IIT MADRAS.
Yes IIT MADRAS is a better institution than NIT TRICHY but NIT Trichy is not a less institution .
Both these institutions come under top NIRF Rankings of a country. Dropping a year for a IIT Madras when you have NIT TRICHY in your hand is not a good option.

Hello,
Cutoff of JEE Main always depends on a number of factors andthe important ones being:
(1) The number of candidates appearing in the entrance exam
(2) Total applications received for the programme to which candidate has sought admission
(3) Total available seats
(4) Difficulty level of the exam and
(5) The category under which admission is sought
But if the number of seats increases the cutoff for a particular list would come down, and go up if seats are decreased. Likewise, if the number of applications increases, competition would go up, and so would the cutoff.
Hence, telling about 2020 cut off is a far fetched thing

Hello Ratan!
Congratulations for your score. So you have got 98.6 percentile in JE Mains exam. First understanding the percentile system is important. Lets take an example, if you have got 90 percentile, it means that you have scored more than 90% candidates. So now since you have got 98.6 percentile, it means that you have scored better than 98.6% candidates.
The total number of students appeared for JEE Mains January Session was 9.65 lakh.
You are above 98.6% students i.e. you have performed better than (.986* 965000)= 9,51,490.
So your approximately rank will be 9,65,000-9,51,490= 13,510
Last year, the closing rank for CSE in NIT TIRCHI was 4041 in 2018 and 4912 in 2017. The closing rank are of General homestate candidates.
So friend as you can see the gap between your rank and closing rank for CSE in NIT TIRCHI, it seems tough for you to get seat. But don't lose hope. Perform even better in April session and you will surely get your dream college and branch.
Hope this will help you.
Thanks!
Comparing the previous years cut off's this year for general the minimum score needed to get into nit calicut will be estimated to be 118-122 and for obc the minimum score estimated is 82-85.For scheduled caste (SC) it will be in the range of 60-65.And for scheduled tribe (ST) it will be around 50-53.
(This is marks you need to score out of 200)
All the best.
Hey,
with this percentile in your category you have high chances of getting in nit trichy. I would recommend you to wait for the next session of jee mains exam in april. As more number of students will appear for the exam so the current ranks and percentile will change. So wait for april for the final result.
